7 Reasons Why Christmas Is Better Than Halloween!

It’s no surprise we’re Christmas fans here at The Christmas Collective, but here is the definitive proof that Christmas is WAY better than Halloween and is in fact, the most wonderful time of the year. Warning, this blog contains truth bombs.

We get it, you’re super excited about Halloween, and we understand that. The costumes are fab, the pumpkins are cool, and who doesn’t love Trick or Treating? We can get on board with the spooky season, but we love Christmas more, and here’s why:

  1. It lasts longer. You can get away with decorating your house for Halloween maybe a week or so before, but the Christmas build-up lasts much longer. For many, Christmas begins on December 1st, but for some, the sparkle and the jingly bells begin making an appearance even earlier still. How early is too early to put up your Christmas decorations? We have to admit, this is a contentious issue, and we don’t have all the answers, but any time after Halloween is permissible in our humble view. Christmas joy can last into the New Year too, and we know that come January 2023 there will be a sad gap where the Christmas tree used to be. We love that the Christmas period brings with it a twinkly warmth that lasts so much longer than just the big day. Christmas – 1, Halloween – 0

The build-up to Christmas is a magical time.
  1. The movies are better. They are just are, and that’s the way it is. We will concede that Beetlejuice is a classic and that Hocus Pocus is a rite of passage. BUT, Elf, The Holiday, Love Actually, Nativity, Die Hard (yes, it totally counts!), the list of iconic Christmas films goes on and on and on. There is a Christmas film for every single person on earth, whether you’re a Grinch or a Cindy Lou Who. Plus there’s the added bonus of not having to watch from behind a cushion.

  1. The music is also better. There is a time and a place for Halloween classic songs like Monster Mash and Thriller. However, Christmas has given us some of the best-loved music of all time, from traditional Carols to Pop classics and even Rock. It was this wealth of Christmas music that prompted us to make our second book, The Mistletoe Mixtape, an homage to festive tunes. Does your favourite Christmas song feature in our playlist?

  1. The food. That’s all. What does Halloween really have to compete in this category, pumpkin pie aside? Sure, there is Trick or Treat candy and maybe the occasional toffee apple, but ultimately, Christmas food is ten times better. Mince pies, rich Christmas pudding made from Mum’s secret recipe, pigs in blankets, turkey with stuffing, yule log, cheese board … best make sure those Christmas PJs have a healthy stretch because waistlines are set to expand! Who doesn’t love settling down in front of the TV with a festive treat, fighting over the best ones in the Quality Street tin? Food is a huge part of any celebration, and you just can’t beat Christmas catering.

  1. Snow beats drizzle. The weather around Christmas time just adds an extra layer of festive fun. We’re always dreaming of a White Christmas, complete with sledging and snowball fights. Christmas weather is the perfect excuse to warm up with a hot chocolate, watching the snow settle from the cosy comfort of your living room.

  1. Presents! Waking up on Christmas morning to find that Santa has been is a magical memory for every child, but it’s not all about receiving gifts. Halloween simply cannot compete with the happiness of finding the perfect present for a friend or relative, and watching the joy on their face as they open it. Wrapping up a token of love and friendship for those you love is a feeling that is impossible to measure. (Maybe Christmas, as they say, doesn’t come from a store. Maybe Christmas, in fact, means a little bit more.)

That’s a wrap.
  1. No two Christmases look the same. You’ve seen one Halloween, you have kind of seen them all, are we right? Not so with Christmas, as you can do Christmas YOUR way. Huge family get-togethers, meet ups with a select few, boozy nights out or cosy snuggles; however you want to celebrate Christmas, it’s totally up to you. We love the diversity and differences in the ways people celebrate, and this is totally reflected in our short story collections. Like Christmas, our books have something for everyone.
Christmas is so fetch!

There you have it: definitive proof that while Halloween is hauntingly good, Christmas is really where it’s at. Disagree? Why not let us know in the comments?
